Study Abroad Teacher Counselor Nationwide
Posted:03/30/2012
American Leadership is an NETC summer program that strives to offer the highest quality study abroad experience for high school students. Our mission is to provide opportunities for cross-cultural understanding, historical awareness, foreign language exposure and personal growth. Ultimately, the program offers an exceptional preparation for college and insight into future career interests for students (we also operate in partnership with the Princeton Review).
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
American Leadership is seeking experienced teachers, counselors, coaches, and school/community leaders around the country to work with our annual summer programs to Europe, China, Peru and/or Australia. The role of the "Teacher Counselor" is to encourage student applications and promote awareness of the program throughout the year in his or her community, as well as to facilitate student admissions (interviewing, reference follow-up), pre-departure trip orientation and preparation information. Teacher Counselors will then chaperone students during the group's two weeks abroad, and later complete a post-trip evaluation for future program improvements.
TIME COMMITMENT
Review and orientation will take approximately five months and the time commitment will range between 2-4 hours a month. The programs last for 14-15 days in late June through July when you will be traveling with your assigned group of students.
COMPENSATION
In addition to expense-paid travel to some of the most historically and culturally significant locations in the world, American Leadership provides opportunities for individuals to attend International Conventions for professional development (also expense-paid), rewards points, cash stipends, student scholarships, recruitment incentives and a performance bonuses. Teacher Counselors who encourage enough new student applications are also eligible to run a private program within their local or school community.
REQUIREMENTS
Our Teacher Counselors play an integral role in making our programs successful and rewarding each year. We are specifically looking for motivated and engaged individuals who have a history of experience working with high school students, and who are eager to support, endorse, and encourage new applicants to our summer programs. We seek teachers, counselors, coaches and other school and community leaders who believe in the value of international education and travel and would like to help make this experience a reality for as many new students throughout the United States as possible. Travel and/or international experience a plus.
APPLICATION PROCESS
We are currently hiring for Summer 2013 Teacher Counselor positions from qualified applicants across the United States. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis this spring, with first program destination preference given to the earlier accepted applicants. Following receipt of initial application (upon request via e-mail), you would be contacted by American Leadership for a phone interview, followed by resume and reference review. All final candidates will also be subject to a standard background check. Start date will follow hire, with major commitment beginning in late summer.
