Know Genetically Engineered Food Act will be on the November 2012 statewide ballot in California. It requires labeling of genetically engineered foods. Currently, there are no laws in California requiring labeling of genetically engineered foods. Consumers have the right to know what is in our food, and if food is genetically engineered, it should be labeled. A recent poll conducted by EMC Research found over 80 percent of California voters are in favor of labeling genetically engineered foods. We intend to empower Californians to make informed choices about what we eat and feed to our families and children. We are currently seeking a full-time organizer to join our campaign and work with us through November 2012. We prefer that the coalition coordinator is based in the Bay Area, but we will consider other California locations. Specific tasks and responsibilities: • Research and reach out to potential endorsers and coalition members • Communicate regularly with coalition members, via phone and email • Maintain coalition & endorsement databases • Coordinate regular calls for the entire coalition and for sub-groups (i.e. food, health, consumer, labor and environmental groups) • Assist with coordination of media events featuring coalition members • Manage interns and volunteers to execute coalition responsibilities Experience and qualifications: • Minimum 2-5 years experience in grassroots and grasstops organizing • Exceptional communication and organizational skills with strong written communication skills • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills; • Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, and multi-cultural perspective • Works well in team environment • Computer literate, and comfortable with acquiring new skills • Flexible schedule, including availability to work evenings and weekends, and to travel periodically throughout the state • Dedicated to working closely and cooperatively on a campaign with diverse staff, volunteers, and community members • Knowldege of food, agriculture, GMO, pesticide, environmental health and public health issues is preferred This position is available immediately, and applications will be considered on a rolling basis. If interested, please submit cover letter, resume, and references to: Paul Baumann, Ph.D. OAKE President-Elect Job Title: Interim Administrative Director Status: Exempt Reports To: OAKE President Date: March 2012 Position Description Under the supervision of the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) Board of Directors, conducts and oversees the daily business of OAKE and provides administrative support to the OAKE Board of Directors until such a time as a permanent Administrative Director for OAKE is hired by the Board. Expected duration of this interim position is three to six months. The individual hired for this interim position is eligible to apply for the permanent Administrative Director position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Establish a temporary office for the organization; • Ensure that OAKE is properly permitted to operate in the state and city of the temporary office; • Be a custodian for the corporation's web site; • Have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the corporation, receive and give receipts for moneys due and payable to the corporation from any source whatsoever, and deposit all such moneys in the name of the corporation in such banks, trust companies, or other depositories as shall be selected in accordance with the provisions of OAKE's Bylaws; • Disburse, or cause to be disbursed, the funds of the corporation as may be directed by the Board of Directors, taking proper vouchers for such disbursements; • Maintain adequate and correct accounts of the corporation's properties and business transactions, including assets, liabilities, receipts, disbursements, gains, and losses; • Exhibit, upon request and at all reasonable times, the books of account and financial records to any director of the corporation, or to a director's agent or attorney; • Exhibit, at all reasonable times, to any director of the corporation or to a director's agent or attorney, any of the legal documents of the corporation; • Prepare, or cause to be prepared, and certify, or cause to be certified, financial statements to be included in regular reports to the Board of Directors, and render to the President of the Board of Directors, upon request, an account of all or any transactions as Administrative Director, and of the financial condition of the corporation; • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors; • In general, perform all duties incident to the office of Administrative Director, and such other duties as may be required by law, the Articles of Incorporation, or OAKE's Bylaws; and The conference duties of Administrative Director are, but are not limited to: • Work with NCBD, & Treasurer on OAKE, Conference & Choir Budgets • Attend all meetings relating to the conference; • Assist with design of logo, theme, promotions, flyer, banner, and call for proposals; • Manage registration desks for choir, mini-conference and conference. Schedules local volunteers with NPT; • Be available on site during the course of the Conference; • Handle all income and disbursements; • Perform conference-related administrative tasks as required by the NCBD, conference committees, and the OAKE Board of Directors. Desired Skills: • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; • Willingness and ability to contribute to overall organization functioning; • Excellent communication and writing skills; • Basic bookkeeping skills; • Strong sense of integrity and professionalism in representation of the organization, both internally and to external constituents and leaders; • Detail-oriented; • Self-motivated; • Comfort with basic office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to learn additional software and web applications quickly (iContact, PayPal, QuickBooks, Google Docs, GiftWorks); Supervisory Authority: Does not have supervisory authority.
